Glimpses, photos & experiences of a foreigner living in Slovenia, Ljubljana
A majestic view, in the heart of Ljubljana is The Križanke Summer Theatre and what remained from the Monastery and church of “Our Lady of Mercy”of the Teutonic Knights Order, located in French Revolution Square – Trg francoske revolucije .first mentioned in 1265, the stones, with their Gothic and Renaissance characteristics, testifying to the medieval times. The present Križanke Church was built between 1714 and 1715 by Domenico Rossi, with a very impressive frontage but the main restoration of Križanke was done by Jože Plečnik ,in the ’50.
He recreated the entire monastery space, adding architectural elements, build in stone windows frames and portals from demolished Ljubljana houses, even the bust of himself can be found in the atrium ,added after his death.
Lots of arts, from poetry till rock can be experienced here, at Krizanke ,the big stage with an orchestra pit is suitable for various theatrical and musical stagings (operas, operettas, ballet, etc.), for symphonic concerts, theatre productions as well as pop and jazz concerts, and even me lol.
The surroundings of Križanke can be as well enjoyed having a walk on what is unofficially called, during different concerts, “the critics lounge” because is located behind the stage, having a really good sound and free entrance 😉
