The earthquake of 1895, almost destroyed the entire city, opening the door for the great architects to re-invent Ljubljana. One of them was Ivan Vurnik, that along with Jože Plečnik, is considered one of the initiators of the Slovene modern architecture.
Miklošičeva ulica ,that connects the central square- Prešernov trg to Ljubljana railway station, has a number of beautiful buildings, palaces but most famous and obvious is the pink bank – The Cooperative Business Bank building,Zadružna Gospodarska Banka . Designed by Ivan Vurnik ,in 1921 and pained by his wife- Helena , the entire building smiles at you through traditional Slovenian motifs.
I took a picture of this building when I was in Ljubljana, but I don’t think I realised it was a bank. It’s nice to learn more about it!
